Luxury knitwear and homewear designer Agne Nazebetauskaite gave us a sneak peek into the hugely popular Ona by Agne brand.

Her designs are created by correlating the knitting concepts from the past, present and the future. Agne spent all her childhood watching her grandmother knit, wearing her handmade garments and learning the techniques. In the past couple of years her passion for textiles grew into the knitwear and homeware brand ONA (her grandmother); connecting the memories with a contemporary visions and transforming them into luxury knitwear and home accessories.

What makes your product unique?

I make chunky knitted home interior details and accessories. Every blanket starts in a huge bag of softest merino wool. I hand spin extremely chunky yarn and knit following my own unique patterns.

What inspires you as an artist/maker?

I find inspiration in every day life, mostly nature – it’s magical! I love exploring the textures and colours in my back garden, beach, park, but my biggest inspiration is my grandmother who taught me of this magical craft of knitting.

How did you get started?

I have been knitting since I can remember myself. Have been maintaining it as a hobby until few years ago I decided I want to chase my dream and every day do what I love the most – knit. I have the best family support behind me and the best clientele who adore my work!

Why do you think it’s important to keep local?

Keeping business local helps to build strong local economy and maintains community. Local businesses play a vital role in our community, bringing the life to what is the essence of Northern Ireland, helping each other.

What motto do you live/work by?

Assume nothing,

Do more – need less,

Dream big, laugh a lot-

Live life naturally and choose wool!
