Local Granola makers ‘Just Live a Little‘ started out making granola in their Strangford Lough shed house and have now cracked Hong Kong. How have they done it? Well, we visited Jill to find out a little more about this amazing story.
Q: What makes your product unique?
A: We hand make our granola using only the finest ingredients many of them local, we also have really unique packaging which features characters of all of us on the back.
Q: Where do you source your raw ingredients?
A: We source as much as we can locally including the oats and the apple sauce. Some of the ingredients come from further afield including our almonds from California.
Q: What inspires you as a producer?
A: As a small producer it is so exciting to see our granola on the shelf in a supermarket or to receive really lovely feedback about your products.
Q: How did you get started?
A: We started at a local farmers market and we began selling our granola in sandwich bags, we were then approached by Hastings hotels to make their granola for their breakfast menu and that’s how it all began
Q: Why do you think it’s important to keep local?
A: I think it is great to support local producers its so hard to compete with large brands with enormous marketing budgets. So many local brands are making quality products and need our support.
Q: What motto do you live/work by?
A: Just Live a Little – our name says it all. We believe the best things in life are the simple things. That all starts with a great breakfast. Being outdoors, getting the wind in your hair.
Q: Where can we buy your products?
A: You can buy Just Live a Little across Northern Ireland in Tesco, Asda, Supervalu, Independents and on line at ocado.com and in Little Waitrose.
Q: What food best compliments your product? Or what is your favourite way of using your product?
A: Our granola is delicious served with Greek yogurt topped with berries and honey!
“Our not-very-well-kept secret? It’s all still baked by David in the converted shed beside our house.”
